Behind Door Number Yes

When I was a kid there was a game show I really liked called Let’s Make a Deal. The contestants were picked from the audience based on how wacky their costumes were or how excited they were acting. The show also had another really fun aspect. Once a contestant was chosen, they often got a chance to choose between what was behind door number one, door number two, and sometimes even door number three.

Behind only one of those doors was the grand prize, like a trip to Japan or a brand-new car. The other doors might be hiding a can of beans or a rubber band. It was a tough choice.

One thing the contestant would often do was ask the audience for help. The crowd would yell out “Two!” or “One!” and even though no one really knew which door would be the winner, it probably felt better not making the decision alone.

The doors we face in life can feel the same way. We know we have to choose one, but we’re not always sure what’s on the other side or which door might lead to what we hope for. We could use some help.

Pastor Jay suggested a way to choose which door to walk through. He said, “Find out what God is blessing, what God is already putting His grace on and what He’s saying yes to, and say, ‘I want in on that.’”

Scripture reminds us that “whatever God has promised gets stamped with the ‘yes’ of Jesus” (2 Corinthians 1:20, MSG). Our “yes” is connected to Jesus’ “yes”, and helps us choose the right ways to go. If we are finding ways to dwell with Him, we can learn to walk through doors together.

The doors God invites us to walk through are not doors of doing, but doors of becoming. Jesus doesn’t just open doors to new assignments, but to deeper relationship. Again and again, His invitation is to “follow Me,” calling us first to just be with Him (Mark 3:13).

Even though life isn’t a game show, (and sadly, no audience to cheer us on), it can feel that way at times. We hope for the grand prize and not a can of beans. And while we don’t always know what’s waiting on the other side, we can trust who is walking with us.

The door Jesus opens is rarely just about what comes next, but about who we are becoming as we walk through it. When we say yes with Him, each new doorway becomes part of the quiet, faithful work of transformation. The best part is that Jesus is already walking through the door with us. No audience needed, and no chance of accidentally taking home a can of beans.

Reflection Questions:
• What doors are currently in front of you, and which one do you sense Jesus inviting you to walk through with Him?

• How might your decision change if you focused less on what you will do and more on who God is inviting you to become?

• Where do you see God already blessing or extending grace in your life, and what would it look like to say yes to that today?
